About

In June 2010, 6 months after purchasing the car I decided to start a blog about my 1983 Porsche 911SC.  It’s my 2nd one – owned the 1st one, a 1982 911SC around 1997 and sold it after only 2 years of owning it.  I always regretted that decision – should have locked it away until I was ready to really appreciate it.  There are some pics and basic info on that car here.

When I bought my current 911SC I had every intention of just detailing it and replacing minor bits and pieces all in the pursuit of making it a ‘nice’ weekend car.  Well – all that has changed and it is starting to turn into much more of a ‘project’.  It’s not a restoration, nor a rebuild, but simply my project.

My goal is to refresh all components so that they are either new in appearance and function or with an acceptable level of patina.  I will endeavour to maintain a certain degree of originality and 911 heritage but will allow specific modifications if I believe it makes this a better car.  One criteria is that I keep a consistent theme for each aspect of the car.  This means that if I start the journey of body mods then I will only attempt to recreate another desirable 911.  At this stage I am leaning toward 1974 IROC.  Not a full back date but the body will be right.  Engine, suspension, brakes, interior – these are all independant choices.

For now the suspension is stock with the exception of urethane bushes throughout and bigger torsion bars.  TB’s will be 21/28 which should still be OK for street use.  I almost went the bronze bushes but to be honest I didn’t want to have to worry about constant greasing.

The motor is going to be a 3.2SS with S cams, 46mm PMO’s, SSI’s, and Dansk Sport dual out muffler.  Ports are going to be opened up to let the whole thing breath and I am hoping for around 280HP – up from the standard of 204!

The purpose of this blog is to document the progress.  It will serve as a timeline and photographic record for all the work I am doing.  The end result is to have a car I love driving, one that I never intend to sell – unless of course I upgrade to a better 911!

I hope you enjoy the journey.
